Transportation Automating and Integrating

Transportation systems are become more automated and integrated, particularly on the commercial side. Shipping is being asked to deliver more and more frequently and is using technology to meet the challenge. Progress is more spotty at the personal level, as electrification of vehicles and the move to ridesharing have been slow. In many jurisdictions high speed trains are increasingly, but progress is spotty here as well.

Four perspectives establish a vision for Perth in 2050

In Perth 2050, four Western Australian engineers and designers at ARUP establish visions for the city of Perth in 2050. The visions respond to UN sustainable development goals and are themed Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities. The four visions are: digital services and districts, seamless and integrated mobility, sustainable urban water management, and resilient urban systems. The second vision, Seamless and intregrated mobility by Zoe Wilks, describes how Perth becomes the “public transport king.”

The Future of Housing: Policy Scenarios

The Future of Housing: Policy Scenarios by OECD uses projections of drivers such as population, income, and interest rates to create scenarios for residential investment and house prices through 2050. It assesses how the renewal of urban mobility could affect housing markets and prices. Better transport efficiency can enhance citizen well-being, benefit the environment, and improve housing affordability.

Oil & Gas 2030: Let There Be Change

Oil & Gas 2030: Let There Be Change by Accenture discusses how the oil and natural gas industry should respond to the challenges of an abundance of supply, the growing momentum toward decarbonization and the structural shifts in consumer behaviors. Electric vehicles represent a threat to oil & gas's dominance in the transportation sector.

Future of Stations

Future of Stations by ARUP explores trends surrounding urban mobility and infrastructure. This report invites city planners and owners, designers, and developers of stations to question what stations can look like in the future.

2022 Strategic Foresight Report

2022 Strategic Foresight Report by the European Commission explores the interplay between the green and digital transitions in the context of evolving geopolitics. The report emphasizes the need to understand the interactions between these transitions to maximize synergies and minimize tensions. It outlines four key targets: achieving digital skills for all, ensuring secure and sustainable digital infrastructure, promoting digitalization of businesses, and enhancing digital public services. Artificial intelligence is identified as a critical technology to help create a climate neutral society, particularly in the transportation sector. Higher living standards could triple demand for passenger transportation between 2015 and 2050. Digital technologies have broad applications for shifting mobility towards sustainabilty and enabling 'transport-as-a-service'.

Equitable Future Mobility

Equitable Future Mobility by ARUP and Urban Transport Group highlights the importance of transport in promoting social inclusion and decarbonizing the transportation sector. If the future of transportation is left to a handful of technology enthusiasts, some user groups will be marginalized or left behind. This report is intended as a conversation starter for transport system stakeholders, aiming to make transortation “available, accessible, affordable, and acceptable for all”

Reimagining the future of transport across Asia and the Pacific

Reimagining the future of transport across Asia and the Pacific by ARUP and Asian Development Bank examines the challenges and opportunities in the transportation sector. It highlights the increasing demand for transport services due to urbanization and economic growth in the region. The report explores various transformative trends, including digitalization, electrification, and autonomous vehicles, and emphasizes the need for sustainable and integrated transport systems to address environmental concerns and enhance connectivity and mobility in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Future of Rail: Opportunities for energy and the environment

The Future of Rail by OECD in collaboration with International Energy Agency argues that changes in transportation systems are necessary to achieve a global energy transition and mitigate climate change, and examines the role of rail in reducing the environmental impact of transport services through the use of scenarios looking through 2050.

The 5th Science and Technology Foresight (2016-2040)

The 5th Science and Technology Foresight (2016-2040) by Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning aims to analyze future social demand, establish strategic technology planning, and guide research and development activities. Through the analysis of future social trends and mega trends, the project identifies major issues, derives future technologies, and contributes to science and technology planning and policy formulation. The report identifies a major issue group “Transportation and Robotics,” which looks at the introduction of unmanned vehicles, growth in the aerospace industry, hyperspeed transportation, and unmanned military vehicles.
