Edit warring

Edit warring is a violation of Open Foresight Hub's code of conduct. An edit war occurs when editors who disagree about the content of a page repeatedly override each other's contributions. Editors engaged in a dispute should reach consensus or pursue dispute resolution rather than edit war. Edit warring is unconstructive, creates animosity between editors, makes consensus harder to reach, and causes confusion for readers. Users who engage in edit warring risk being blocked or even banned. An editor who repeatedly restores their preferred version is edit warring, regardless of whether those edits are justifiable.

A rule of thumb to determine if edit warring is taking place is the 3 Revert Rule (3RR). Do not revert any article more than three times in 24 hours. This is to prevent ‘revert wars’ edit warring. If someone challenges your edits, discuss it with them and seek a compromise, or seek dispute resolution. Do not start fights over competing views and versions. Reverting any part of any single page more than three times in twenty-four hours, or even once if long-term edit-warring is apparent, can result in a ban on your account.

If someone makes an incorrect edit, you can revert it and explain why without insulting them. New users aren't made better if they feel like outsiders to a private club. If someone reverts your edit and you don't understand why, or feel insulted, do not retaliate by reverting their edit back. Take up the issue in the editor notes.

Repeated and pointless page creation or modification can be grounds for a temporary blocking, because it's considered unproductive and clutters the appearance of the wiki. If someone is insulting or using aggressive language on editor notes, do not respond in kind. If appropriate, you can explain why you made a specific edit and seek to de-escalate the situation. If someone's behavior is abusive, harmful, or makes you feel unsafe, contact an administrator for help.

Be patient, understanding, and kind when dealing with another user. It may slow down the pace of change on the wiki, but the changes agreed upon will be more pleasant to everyone.
