Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want (popular version)

The aspirations reflect our desire for shared prosperity and well-being, for unity and integration, for a continent of free citizens and expanded horizons, where the full potential of women and youth, boys and girls are realized, and with freedom from fear, disease and want. The AU is leveraging lessons learned to avoid past mistakes and collectively develop a path forward to achieving this vision. There's no question, it is definitely about motivation to be united and learn from a trauma-informed history to build a better unified African society (these are my words, not theirs, but they want to learn from slaverym colonialism, and apartheid to be quitable and united in the future).

The African Union's Agenda 2063 is definitely a visioning exercise. It reads rather like a manifesto or a modern-day version of Martin Luther's 95 theses. The agenda decomposes in 7 major aspirations for the continent and each aspiration is further broken down into strategic and tactical goals/actions the AU wants the continent to collectively take and/or engage. This is definitely a different approach to drivers and with one BIG scenario/vision of the future.

• A properous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainble development
• An integrated continent, politically united based on the ideals of Pan Africanism and the vision of Africa’s Renaissance
• An Africa of good governance, democracy, respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law
• A peaceful and secure Africa
• An Africa with a strong cultural identity, common heritage, values and ethics
• An Africa, whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children
• Africa as a strong, united, resilient and influential global player and partner
